Sixth graders explored the elements of art in their square one art project. Their focus was on line design, shape, balance, and analogous color schemes.
To accompany their study of the Day of the Dead in Social Studies the sixth graders learned about sugar skulls in art and created their own out of clay. These are displayed outside of the art room in my showcase.
The sixth graders explored color theory with this color wheel Mandala project. A Mandala is a symbol used in other cultures and religions representing the universe. Mandalas are intricate designs that have radial symmetry. Each student created their own original symmetrical design and then painted it with tints, shades, and pure hues in color wheel order.
The northern lights or the aurora borealis are created by collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth's atmosphere. The colorful dancing lights are seen best above the magnetic poles of the northern and southern hemispheres. After viewing pictures of the northern lights the 6th graders created a beautiful northern lights landscape using chalk pastels.
