The fifth graders created a seascape for their square one art project. They got to look and learn about the art of contemporary artist, Heather Brown for their inspiration. We practiced wet on wet painting and shading techniques. They really did a fabulous job!!
On our trip to the DIA the fifth graders went on a guided tour of the Native American galleries. This was an awesome experience. Students got to see authentic Native American art and artifacts close up. After the students got to explore the museum on their own. There is so much to see and do at the DIA. If you are looking for something fun to do with the family, the DIA holds kids workshops on Friday nights. You get to explore the museum as a family and the kids get to create a piece of art. Before our trip to the DIA, the fifth graders learned about the Pacific Northwest tribes and created a totem pole in groups in art. Each student created their own totem animal, learned the meaning, and added them together with their group to create a totem pole.
The fifth graders learned about color theory during their eyeball color wheel lesson. The students created a color wheel using only the primary colors to mix the secondary and intermediate colors. We then took the color wheels and turned them into a giant eye. They are very eye catching; )
